Hillary on Working-Class Southerners: "Screw 'em"

    From ABC.com:

...Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-NY, during a 1995 retreat called the "Camp David Seminar on the Future of Democracy had some interesting comments about working-class white Southerners who had left the Democratic party:
"'Screw 'em,' she said, 'you don't owe them a thing, Bill, they're doing nothing for you.' Bill rose to their defense, 'as if rehearsing an old but honorable debate he had been having with his wife for decades,'" as one attendee recalled.

Also on The Huffington Post (the same who broke Obama's "bitter" comments) and The New Republic

Incidentally, Clinton's Negatives at Record High.

Likely Democratic voters, 51-41 percent, say they want Obama to win the nomination — his biggest advantage to date. Obama has also cleared the "electability" hurdle in Democratic minds — 62 percent say he is more likely to win than Clinton.

In more bad news for Clinton, 58 percent of Americans polled said she is not honest and trustworthy. Obama beats her on this attribute by a 23-point margin.
    ...
A record high of 54 percent of Americans have an unfavorable opinion of the New York senator, according to the ABC News/Washington Post poll.

You know nothing ever changes. It all boils down to petty disagreements and mud slinging. What the hell is either candidate going to do to actually facilitate change in society as we know it? I can say I don't believe either are going to get anything done. I don't believe that Hillary actually gives a shit about poor America. And Obama is "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington", he's making promises he would like to keep but there are too many fat cats in Washington to impede any process of social reconstruction like to facilitate. The middle class is being annexed by the poor class and nothing is being done to attenuate the process. But there is always hope yes? I don't know, all the people I work with are living paycheck to paycheck as am I and that sort of living narrows your line of sight to what matters right now as opposed to the future. They generally regard people in power as individuals who could give a shit about them...oh whatever I'm rambling and nobody wants to here this, it all goes back to my original spotty argument of having a politician who has rough hands, that can identify with the majority of Americans.

I completely agree, washington is overrun with politicians who don't have the american people in their best interest. but I think the only way this will ever change is to get someone into office who is different. The only way this will change is if the majority of americans start paying attention to politics and vote. I haven't yet fallen into the hole of cynicism that you have. or perhaps i had, and obama's unlikely odds and success so far has pulled me back out...

oh yeah, i'll be at the play, not sure when though, mom's picking up my ticket for me ;)
